Introduction
The South Asian Journal of Postcolonial English Language Pedagogy is a unique journal dedicated to various aspects of the teaching and learning of the English language in the decolonized countries in South Asia. It aims to talk about the changed contexts of English language education in the wake of globalization, democratization and decolonization. It will deliberate on a very broad spectrum of issues concerning second/foreign language pedagogy: shift from paradigms of dependence to paradigms of independence, move from external norms to internal norms, need to rethink the objectives of teaching English as a second/foreign language, role of the native/non-native teacher, need for culture sensitive teaching materials and methodology, emergence of new Englishes, ownership of English, the notions of hegemony and linguistic imperialism, choice of appropriate variety, issue of comfortable intelligibility, relevance of imported instruments of testing, and related topics.
The SAJPELP has been launched in recognition of the spread, percolation and increasing role of English in South Asia, the emergence of the region as an economic powerhouse, and the need to develop culturally sensitive curriculum, produce culturally suitable materials, and adopt appropriate pedagogy and testing apparatus.
The journal will publish research articles on theoretical issues and teaching articles offering insights into the sociology of the South Asian English classroom as well as practical tips for teachers.
